There are total of 68 verses in Surah Qalam and it is the 52nd Surah of the Quran. It was revealed in Mecca. The primary theme of this Surah is the Oneness of Allah and the Prophethood of Muhammad. It also includes admonitions for the disbelievers and warnings for those who plot against the Messenger of Allah. This Surah was revealed at a time when the disbelievers were actively plotting against the Messenger of Allah and trying to discredit him. In this Surah, Allah Almighty responds to their plots and exposes their true intentions. He also warns them of the consequences of their actions. Surah Qalam begins with a reference to the pen and the inkpot. This is significant because it is through the pen that Allah reveals His words to His Prophets. It is also through the pen that we humans record our own words. The Quran is divided into 114 surahs, or chapters, and Surah Qalam is the 68th surah. It is a relatively short surah, consisting of only 52 verses. The name Qalam is derived from the word qalam, meaning “pen.” This surah is so named because it discusses the power and importance of the pen. The first verse of Surah Qalam states: “By the pen and what the pen writes.” This verse emphasizes the power of the pen. The pen is mightier than the sword, and it is through the pen that we communicate and record our thoughts and experiences. The second verse goes on to say: “You are not, [O Muhammad], by the favor of your Lord, a madman.” This verse is addressed to the Prophet Muhammad, and it reassures him that he is not insane despite the challenges he faces.
