“Al-Qasas” (tales) is the name given to the surah because it tells the stories of several prophets, notably Moses (a). It is used in verse 25 to refer to the tale of Moses’ time with Shu’ayb (a). In verses 3-50 of the surah, the account of Moses and the Pharaoh’s fight is told.

In the Qur’an, it is Sura al-Qasas, a Makki surah. There are forty-nine suras revealed to the Prophet (s) in the order of revelation, and there are twenty-eight suras that are contained in juz’ twenty of the Qur’an in the current order of compilation.

In total, Sura al-Qasas contains 88 verses, 1443 words, and 5933 characters. This sura is one of the intermediate suras of the Qur’an, which is equivalent to around a half-size of the Qur’an in terms of its size. Due to the fact that it starts with “ta-sin-mim,” it counts as a “Tawasin” sura.

What does it mean to relate events in their correct order? An appropriate title for this Surah since it tells the tale of Prophet Moses in great detail. Ta. Sin. Mim. is the Qur’an’s fourteenth Surah that begins with ‘the abbreviated letter,’ and it is the third and final time that this form is mentioned in the Qur’an.

Tradition says that the Prophet Muhammad (S) said:
No angel in the heavens or the ground will attest to his rightfulness in Hereafter unless they recite Surah Al-Qasas.
In a different version, Imam Sadiq (as) says:
Whoever recites Suras Al-Qasas, An-Name, and Ash-Shu’ara by night before Friday will be among Allah’s friends, near to Him, and supported by Him; and in this world, he will not encounter severe poverty, insecurity, and disquiet, and in the Hereafter Allah will bestow on him so many merits that he will be pleased and even more than pleased. ”
