A Gathering of Shadows is the second novel in V. E. Schwab’s Shades of Magic series. The novel picks up a few months after the events of A Darker Shade of Magic and follows Kell, Lila, and Alucard as they travel to Red London to compete in the annual magic tournament. The tournament is a chance for magicians from all over the world to showcase their skills and win prizes.

But it’s also a time for political maneuvering and backstabbing, as each nation tries to gain an advantage over the others. Kell is determined to keep a low profile at this year’s tournament. He doesn’t want any attention drawn to himself or his abilities.

But Lila has other plans. She’s eager to prove herself and show everyone that she’s just as good as any magician, even if she doesn’t have any formal training. Alucard, meanwhile, is struggling with his own demons.

He’s still haunted by the memories of his past mistakes, and he’s not sure if he can trust himself around other people anymore. The tournament turns out to be more dangerous than anyone anticipated, and Kell, Lila, and Alucard find themselves in the middle of a conspiracy that could destroy everything they hold dear. With enemies on all sides, they’ll have to rely on each other more than ever just to survive.

What Inspired You to Write A Gathering of Shadows

I’ve always been fascinated by history, particularly the Tudor period. I grew up watching movies like The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex and reading novels like The Other Boleyn Girl, so when I started writing my own historical fiction, that’s the era I naturally gravitated towards. A Gathering of Shadows is set in 1554, during the reign of Queen Mary I. It’s a time of great upheaval in England, with religious tensions running high and rebellion brewing in the air.

Into this mix comes my protagonist, Eliza Grey, a young woman determined to find her place in a world that seems determined to keep her down. The idea for the book came to me while I was doing some research on another project. I came across an account of a woman who had been burned at the stake for heresy, and it just stayed with me. I started thinking about what would drive someone to such desperate measures and how far they might be willing to go to avoid being caught.

From there, the story just took off. It’s been an absolute joy to write this book and bring these characters to life. I can’t wait for readers to meet them and see what happens next!

What is the Book About

The Catcher in the Rye is a novel by J. D. Salinger. The story follows Holden Caulfield, a teenager from New York City, who is expelled from his prep school and then takes a journey around America. The novel has been banned in some schools because of its language and sexual content.

What are Your Thoughts on Magic And How It’S Portrayed in the Novel

Do you believe in magic? If so, how do you think it works? Do you think that the way magic is portrayed in novels is accurate to how it really works?

I personally don’t believe in magic, however I know many people who do. To each their own! As for how magic is portrayed in novels, I would say that it varies.

Some authors write about magic as if it’s a real thing and try to explain the science behind it, while others just use it as a fun plot device with no explanation needed. It all depends on the story being told and what the author is going for.

Did You Have Any Specific Goals in Mind When Writing This Book

No, I didn’t have any specific goals in mind when writing this book. I just wanted to write a book that would be entertaining and would hopefully make people laugh.

Are There Any Easter Eggs Or Hidden References That Readers Might Not Catch at First Glance

Yes, there are several Easter eggs and hidden references in the Harry Potter series that readers might not catch at first glance. For example, in the first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, there is a reference to the fact that Professor Dumbledore’s full name is Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore. This is an anagram of “a very bad mood.”

Additionally, in the third book, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, there is a reference to Sirius Black’s escape from Azkaban prison being assisted by Dementors. This is a play on words as “sirius” means “black” in Latin.
