What Inspired You to Write This Novel
I’ve always been a big fan of novels that transport the reader to another world, and I wanted to create my own. My debut novel, The Girl Who Drank the Moon, is set in an alternate universe that’s part fantasy, part fairy tale. It’s a world where magic is real, but it’s also a world with its own rules and logic.
I was inspired by many things while writing the novel, including folklore, mythology, and even video games. But if I had to narrow it down to one inspiration for the novel, it would be my daughter. She was born just as I began working on the first draft of the book, and she quickly became my muse.
It was because of her that I decided to make one of the main characters a young girl who discovers her own magical powers. And it was because of her that I decided to infuse the story with hope and light. So in many ways, this novel is for her.

The idea for my novel came to me while I was lying in bed one night, unable to sleep. It just popped into my head and wouldn’t leave me alone until I got up and wrote it down. Once I had the basic premise, the characters and plot began to take shape in my mind and the story just grew from there.
